Christian Dior S/S 2013

For us, one of the most anticipated collections of Spring 2013 was Raf Simons' second collection for the house of Dior. After the scandalous dismissal of John Galliano, the lovers of the iconic French brand were divided in opinions. Some of them claimed, that it would have been impossible to replace Galliano and his unique style. As for the other ones, they were more optimistic and believed, that the house of Dior needed a change.

Raf Simons was, indeed, an unexpected choice for Dior. His minimalist style, unloaded and clean silhouettes have nothing in common with so called "theatrical" and "dramatic" style of John Galliano's Dior. That's the main reason, why the fashion industry was skeptical and didn't expect anything incredible from the Belgian designer.

Predictably, Raf Simons' collection for Dior haute couture Fall 2012 was a complete antithesis of John Galliano's collections for the same brand.

It became clear, that a new era of Dior has started - an era of minimalism. Raf Simons returned the house of Dior to its origins - to the time, when the word "Dior" was an epitome of chic and simplicity. His first collection for the brand turned out to be surprisingly refreshing and was highly approved by the fashion critics.

Returning to the main subject of this review - the collection of Spring 2013 - we have to admit, that we were a little bit disappointed. Undoubtedly, the colours, silhouettes, fabrics and cuts were perfect, but still, there were too many similarities with the previous collection. These similarities are especially visable in the final looks of the show. However, in spite of this little disappointment, Dior Spring 2013 deserves to be considered as one of the best collections of the season.
